Houndstooth Trend

I'm not a fan of trends. I really do not consider myself trendy. But wait, the houndstooth trend is really something I cannot resist.

Why? I'm a big fan of the black and white combo. So classic, right? Trends may come and go but black and white remains. We always have that on our closets simply because we can't go wrong with it.

Houndstooth-this pattern has been around since 1960's according to my research and it is just making a comeback in our generation. And it is simply everywhere-tops, pants, phone cases, bags, shoes, jackets, scarves, you name it!

Celebrities made it famous too. Kim Kardashian and Leighton Meester were spotted wearing this pattern.

What I love from this print is that it is very adaptable and can be worn in different ways.

The frugalista in me will have to tell you the secrets to my outfit.

Top-a thrift shop in Tagaytay

Pants-here's the exciting part, I want to have a black and white ensemble as pants, I just do not know where to buy. I actually saw one online after researching, however, the price is almost PhP3,000. Not frugal! I just decided to customize.

Here's what I did:

  • looked for two jeggings, one black and the other one is black at a nearby department store or bazaar, brandless. (PhP250 each, PhP500 total)
  • went to the nearest tailor and instructed him to combine the two into one, white at the front and black at the back (PhP150)
  • spent only a total of PhP650 instead of PhP3,000. :)

To frugality and beyond,

Terrain and A Scarf

Baguio. the legit place to wear winter clothes, (couldn't wear this anywhere else in the Philippines because of the hot weather). And of course, our hometown, Tagaytay included. Check my previous post on how to dress up like a New Yorker here.

In this article, let me show you how a single accessory can transform a dull outfit to a vibrant mood.

The answer: a scarf. A scarf can save a boring look, can instantly add color, and not to mention, hide all sorts of problem areas. And I love the fact that it can be worn in so many ways, even as a top. Check out Rona wearing scarf as top here.

Truth be told, most women I know who love to travel bring a scarf with them, it simply is an accessory filled with travel stories.

Well, time to check if I nailed the "scarf as my life saver" look. :)

Black pants and tank top paired with a matching colored cardigan and my scarf.

Happy 2014, here's to more awesome years,
